I Don't Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist

Product:
"To some, the concept of having faith in a higher power or a set of religious beliefs is nonsensical. Indeed, many view religion in general, and Christianity in particular, as unfounded and unreasonable. Norman Geisler and Frank Turek argue, however, that Christianity is not only more reasonable than all other belief systems, but is indeed more rational than unbelief itself." I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist helps readers test the arguments regarding the existence of God. These authors exam the reliability of the New Testament and the stories pertaining to Jesus. In the last chapter C.S. Lewis is quoted: "There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, in the end, 'Thy will be done.'"  In the Foreword David Limbaugh is quoted stating "There is an abundance of evidence for the reliability of Scripture, for the authority of the Bible as the inspired word of God, and that the Bible accurately portrays the historical events it covers, including the earthly life of Jesus Christ."

 My Experience:

A while back I was pondering why I believed that Jesus is the truth, the light, and the way John 14:6. Don't misunderstand me it's not that I was starting to question everything I know to be true. I just wanted to be able to explain my stance to an unbeliever. So I start discussing the topic with a few friends and a book was lend to me. After reading the book I continued to not understand how I would be able to answer the questions "Why do you believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven?"  "Don't tell me its a feeling." I had one of my husband's friends say to me a while back. The question still remind unanswered and sometime later I was given the opportunity to review the book "I Don't Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist." You might call it coincidence I call it divine intervention. So I opened the book and previewed the table of contents which consisted of several chapters. The one I chose to review was chapter 11 "The Top Ten Reasons We Know the New Testament Writers Told the Truth." At the beginning of the chapter Peter Kreeft is quoted saying "Why would the apostles lie?....If they lied, what was their motive, what did they get out of it? What they got out of it was misunderstanding, rejection, persecution, torture, and martyrdom. Hardly a list of perks!" In this chapter the authors list 10 reasons why the New Testament writers were telling the truth. Scripture was used throughout the chapter. More reasons were addressed as far as the writers authenticity and events where written about proving the writers' stories. One of the events discussed was the resurrection of Jesus. Why would this event have been mentioned it if it did not happen? Matthew 28:11-15 basically states the explanation of the Jews of why the tomb was empty. The Jews bribed the soldiers securing the tomb into lying and gave them a large sum of money. Another example of the authenticity of the stories was the 30 historical confirmed people who were mentioned in their writings. "The New Testament writers would have blown their credibility with their contemporary audiences by implicating real people in a factional story." The final and most important reason proving that the New Testament is real is the writers not denying their beliefs under persecution or threat of death. "If they had made up the Resurrection story, they certainly would have said so when they were about to be crucified (Peter), stoned (James), or beheaded (Paul)." Makes you think doesn't it.

The curriculum that accompanies the book consists of assignments that one would complete after reading the corresponding chapter. In chapter 11 the first page gives you a "Road Map" of the points the chapter will be covering. The Key Points explain what one would learn once the chapter is completed. The curriculum also includes information about individuals that refused to denounce their faith while being persecuted. There are questions that one would answer pertaining to the reading.

Overall Thoughts:
I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist is a great book  for those skeptical about Christianity. It is also a good  resource for Christians wanting to effectively articulate their defense regarding their belief in Christianity. Reading the book and completing the curriculum equipped me to be able to effectively answer the question "Why do you think the Bible is authentic." The book used scripture to illustrate their point and equipped me with the evidence I would need to defend my belief. The book and curriculum asked questions that I really never thought of. For example, why would the apostles fabricate a story like the resurrection? Why would they come up with something so unimaginable and look like a bunch of morons? If the resurrection did not happen why would they talk about it? "Do people invent or embellish stories that will get them beaten, tortured, and killed.?" Would an author write about a situation that is going to make them look foolish? If what these uneducated yet brilliant men said was not true then why didn't they denounce their faith in the face of death? I don't understand why individuals deny the existence of God. Is it mere arrogance? They could achieve anything without any divine intervention. Is it fear of loosing control and allowing something they can not touch, see, smell, or taste, take control. Why, I really wish I knew why. I do know something though.  I know the Bible is true. I know what my life was before I gave my heart to Jesus. I know about the loneliness and emptiness I experience daily. I hope and pray that everyone that reads this review knows Jesus and if you do not, that the Almighty places people in your life that will point you to Him. Trust me it's a decision you will NEVER regret. To the authors, thank you so very much for taking the time to write the book I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist. This book is complete for its purpose and I would recommend it.
