Absent Dad: Forgiveness

It is so very heart breaking to read the posts on Facebook written by women who desperately want to know their dad and have a relationship with him. They talk about their abandonment and how that affected them. This makes me think about my relationship with my biological father. What an amazing dad he was until that day. The day he met her and forgot about me. I vividly remember crying to my dad and telling him that I knew "she" was going to take him away from me and he promised he would not abandon me. Guess what, he broke his promise and he did abandon me for her. He was raising two girls that were not even his and forgot about my sister and I. He did not teach me how to drive. Was not there for me when I needed him. His abandonment caused a lot of heart ache and pain.

But now, he is a Christian and so am I. A believer in the Lord Almighty Jesus Christ. Slowly but surely my dad has been able to share with me his own experiences with his father. And how physically abusive his dad was to him, his siblings, and his mom. (My dad never laid a hand on me but his abandonment scarred me for a long time.) This understanding has brought so much healing to the whole situation. He was never loved by his dad so my dad was unable to love. This is so very sad. Now, with the Lord in his heart, he has become the dad that I always wanted and needed. I'm so very grateful that I'm able to have a relationship with him. That God has been able to work through the situation and mend our broken hearts. You see he too had his own issues with his upbringing and unfortunately, he had brought that baggage into our relationship.

For those that have not been able to mend their relationship with their dad. I hope that you understand that there's a God that loves you so very much. A God that marvels when He sees you because you are His masterpiece. I hope and pray that one day you will be untied with your dad. But if you are not for what ever reason, you have a heavenly dad. A dad that will never abandon you and loves you unconditionally.I hope that you allow Him to cleanse your heart from all of the hurt and pain.

Psalms 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Isaiah 41:10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
